ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND.
The National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU) is an umbrella organization promoting the rights of Persons with disabilities in Uganda with the vision of having “A Just and Fair Society where Persons with Disabilities live a Prosperous and Dignified life”. We exist to advocate for the rights of Persons with Disabilities in a unified voice for improved livelihoods. NUDIPU seeks to recruit competent and energetic Ugandan to fill the position below:
Job Title: Programme Assistant (1 position)
Location: Adjumani district
Reports to: Programme Officer
Other key relationships: Support All: Programme Managers, Officers & Colleagues within NUDIPU External relations, Beneficiaries/clients, Members, Civil Society/ Private Sector, Development Partners and Government.
Job Purpose
Provide Direct support to the most vulnerable segment of the population- Persons with disabilities, youth and women to meet their specific needs and ensure their food security, ensuring their participation in specific initiatives to ensure their full access to and use of food by addressing significant barriers faced to the full use and control of productive resources and little decision-making power within their families or communities, through inclusion of the weakest groups in the agricultural, social and economic development path of the project, strengthening their decision-making power in production, nutritional and commercial choices, Protection of natural resources and reduction of the impact of human activities and Awareness raising and promotion of environmental inclusion and protection in project target. To achieve the organization strategic plan 2025 to 2029 and NUDIPU goals and vision.
Job summary
The Programme Assistant will implement all ECO FOOD Project activities, including support for adaptive agricultural technologies, nutrition training, strengthening OPDs and youth groups, advocacy on land rights and gender issues. He/she will engage partners and district structures and ensure project targets are met while promoting the meaningful inclusion of vulnerable groups in agriculture, natural resource management, and development.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities.
1.0 Programme planning and development- 50%
- Lead implementation of ECO FOOD Project activities in assigned locations, ensuring efficient delivery of livelihood, nutrition, and inclusion interventions across all 12 sub-counties of Adjumani.
- Develop partnerships to increase access to adaptive agricultural technologies and assistive devices for persons with disabilities contributing to 200 persons with disabilities accessing assistive devices.
- Deliver nutrition education and support households especially women and persons with disabilities to start small income generating activities contributing to the empowerment of 1,465 farmers who will gain skills in nutrition, food security, and environmental conservation.
- Strengthen organizations of women, persons with disabilities, and youth with disabilities and their involvement in outreach and advocacy for more inclusive policies on food security and agriculture to participate in outreach and advocacy including strengthening 66 leaders from 6 Organization of Persons with disabilities (OPDs)and supporting132 youth with disabilities to form and run youth clubs in Adjumani district.
- Promotion of environmental
conservation, energy conservation and good waste management through virtuous
community practices and sustainable and easily replicable technologies
2.0 External Engagements and Collaboration – 25%
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with District Local Government, private sector actors, service providers, and communities to influence gender-responsive and disability-inclusive food security policies.
- Participate in district coordination mechanisms such as agricultural working groups, gender networks, and multi-stakeholder dialogues.
- Engage implementing partners to coordinate activities and strengthen collaborative project implementation.
- Build networks and coalitions to advocate for gender-responsive programmes and inclusive implementation.
- Participate in district food security forums and other relevant platforms.
- Promote visibility of NUDIPU and the District Union.
3.0 Resource mobilization -15%
- Develop fundable proposals for food security and inclusion Projects
- Support sustainability initiatives for the district union to ensure long-term community impact.
- Contribute to the development of sector-based fundable proposals
- Strengthen the capacity of staff and partners in disability mainstreaming.
- Develop strategies for programming and mainstreaming disability in the project.
- Support coordination of the implementation of disability related projects with relevant partners.
Education and experience
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Nutrition, agribusiness, natural resources, Environmental management or any related course.
- Post graduate diploma in project planning and management is a must
Industry experience
- 3-4 years of working experience in implementing agriculture and food security interventions at community level.
- knowledge of national policies that guard against abuse of rights of Persons with Disabilities.
- Must have experience in coordinating activities at the lower local government and ready to work in Adjumani district.
- Applicant should be fluent in the local languages and ready to reside in the district of project implementation.
- Knowledge of national and international instruments like; 1995 constitution of Uganda as amended and UNCRPD and implementation of disability inclusion in community development programs.
